Several stalls or runs at an indoor axe throwing facility.
For Christmas, The kids and I wanted to get their dad something he wouldn’t forget. We wanted it to be an activity that we could all do together, and with it being winter, just in case, we wanted it climate-controlled. We talked about it and decided ax-throwing might be the perfect fit. I like supporting local businesses and friends, which made A&R Axe Throwing a no-brainer. As soon as I learned someone I know from work is a co-owner, I couldn’t resist. Especially because she is one of those people who has the biggest heart for others. Of course, I looked up A&R.

Ben Meyer

I didn’t tell her we were going to try it, my son and I just stopped by one weekend and met Ben Meyer. There were people inside laughing and having a great time as we talked. Ben is an ORU student, and it was easy to see this young man loves his job. He walked us around and showed us how it works. He also gave us some cool tips and it was super fun. Then He hooked us up with our gift certificate, and we took off.

When Kelly opened the gift, he smiled from ear to ear. We knew we’d made the right choice.

The Birthday girl with Daddy.

It just so happens my mom’s birthday is not long after the holidays. So, we decided to take Mom and Dad and make it a family affair, and I’m so glad we did. It was the perfect way to spend a Saturday. We stopped by Merritt’s Bakery and picked up her favorite cream horns and cupcakes. We also ordered Mazzio’s and had some Cauliflower Pizza and Salad. It’s pretty convenient since Mazzio’s sits in the same parking lot. Last but not least, we brought our Yetis, so we had water, but you can also buy snacks and drinks there. I think it’s pretty cool they let you bring your own food and drink.

Anyway, when we got there, we each signed a release form. It Just makes sense. I mean, it is axe throwing. Ben took the time to get us all set up in our lane, gave us our lesson, and went over the game rules. He really made sure we understood the safest way to throw the ax and score points at the same time.

We had three generations there and all of us grasped what he was saying to us. My father was so good. Dad stepped up and it wasn’t long before he had a bullseye under his belt. As for hubby, he had a grin on his face the whole time. He kept telling us stories about how he used to do this as a kid. That turkey could hit the target using one or both hands and over or underhanded. He was cracking me up. Both the kids nailed it and I will say I’m not too shabby.

For me, the game seems kind of like a combo of bowling, darts, and skee-ball, only with an ax. It was also nice to have the details on the table at the back of our lane for quick reference. We were laughing so hard, especially with everyone eventually talking smack while doing their best to one-up the last person to throw. I mean, we were in it to win it. Because of the way we choose to play, we were active enough to break a sweat without really noticing it during our time. The kids were able to blow off some steam, and we got to zing each other the whole time. For us, it was definitely a family-friendly event that worked for the most athletic in the group and for those who just wanted to be spectators that day.

A&R table top games

I think most of us thought we’d get a chance to hit the games section, but we pretty much stayed in our lane… get it? Ok sorry. LOL. They’re open seven days a week and you can B.Y.O.B if you want to bring a cooler. Plus don’t forget bringing your own food makes for a great b-day party.

Our ninety-minute session was just right for this squad. We came, we thew, and we will be back.
