My husband and I love to get away and spend time on the beach. Cancun is a quick hop, skip, and a jump from Tulsa, so we’ve landed here may times. One year we stayed at The Hyatt Zilara.

When we got to the hotel, we learned our room wasn’t ready yet(not a big deal), so we grabbed a cold beverage and walked out to the pool. The music was loud, and there was lots of foam on one side of the pool area where a DJ and dancers were making the perfect party; the other side was still chill and beautiful. We both liked the idea of options.LOL.

We eventually got all checked into our room, enjoyed some dinner, and then a good nights rest. The next day hubby and I rented a cabana area and enjoyed not having to worry about finding shade. They didn’t have any umbrellas when we were there, so this was the best option we thought. Upstairs was sun and fun downstairs had shade and fun. It was a win-win. We enjoyed our meals here the view and privacy.

I loved the gym at this hotel. It was a great facility, and one appreciated when you sometimes overindulge in food and beverage. I like their open stairs and would run them to work up a sweat before going to their fitness center.

Once we got all checked in, we went for a walk on the beech. Now, this is probably my biggest disappointment in this stay. You know how most resorts have cubbies for you to leave your shoes in while you walk on the beach? Zilara had one, so we used it…but when we came back both our shoes were gone. Long story short my husbands were returned mine never showed up again 🙁 . Security at the hotel said someone turned in hubby’s shoes, but mine somehow didn’t show up… I don’t know. The only other issue was our AC. Maintenance had to come to make a repair one night. But they did it quickly, and we didn’t have any more problems with the air. In fact, they acted so quickly I hesitate to even mention it to you. But it happened so I’m telling ya. I

I’m not a big breakfast eater, but I feel in love with Pelicanos avocado toast. We had most of our meals at Pelicanos. Sunset looking at the ocean was fantastic.

Maria Marie served up an excellent dinner to.. we really did enjoy all our meals, but we skipped the Chef’s Plate. It just seemed like more than we wanted to have for dinner.

At night the entertainment was fun and lively. Our room was spacious and offered up a great view of the pools and ocean.

Overall we found this place to be fun, and at the same time, it was easy to relax without crazy party tunes every day. But if we wanted to turn it up some, we could have without ever leaving the resort.

We had a great stay and the week was a wonderful way for us to reconnect and just be us without talking work, kids, or about anything other than us and or the experience.
