You guys know I try to eat healthy the majority of the time, but sometimes I want to try something just because it looks fun, and that’s precisely why we headed to ‘Mad Eats, a Modern American Diner.’
My husband and I had taken the kids to ‘Climb Tulsa’, and after a couple of hours of climbing the walls, they were pretty hungry. We realized we were right by the BA, and we could get to Mad Eats pretty quickly. It didn’t take us long at all to reach Main Street in the Redbud District in downtown Owasso.
As soon as the kids walked in and saw some of the desserts go by, their eyes about popped out of their heads. We grabbed a menu and started looking at our options while we waited to be seated, which only took about ten minutes. By the time we got to our table, we’d already decided we wanted to taste a bunch of different things, knowing we’d end up with a to-go box.
Since this was kind of a surprise birthday adventure for them both, we decided to go ahead and let them order dessert first. I was freaking out a little when the shakes came out because they were huge. I don’t even want to know the fat and calorie count in these things. So, as my husband sometimes reminds me, “Don’t ask, just enjoy.” But I’d say, umm no, this is not where you go to eat clean. But it is a great place to eat. Half of the excitement for us had to do with the presentation of these sugary concoctions that seem like something you’d find at ‘Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory.’ These things were beautiful. Our kids devoured them and then somehow had no problem with their lunch. Now, to be clear, they didn’t have all of these shakes, but they did do some damage.
I asked to taste them both. I don’t drink coffee, but I loved what Karys picked. It’s called the ‘Chester Coffee Pot and Bonuts.’ The menu description says it’s a, “Coffee shake, chocolate sprinkle rim, whipped cream, coffee sugared bonuts.” Landon went with the ‘Hey You Guys.’ The menu description says, “Oreo cookie milkshake, Oreo cookie rim, whipped cream. ” I have to admit it was super yummy, too. I mean, what’s not to like? And if you don’t want something this over the top, there are other shake options as well.
We had a blast sampling the different flavors. I think my favorite was the ahi tuna AKA The ‘Tuna Poke Bowl.’ The service was great, which only added to our experience. Our waiter had an easy-going attitude but was focused and kept everything coming out in a timely manner. He also smiled and answered all our questions despite the restaurant starting to fill up with guests. I didn’t take a full picture of the inside of the restaurant for you to see because I didn’t want to bother other people enjoying their meals or drinks. I will just tell you; it felt kind of like an old fashioned soda fountain diner with an up to date environment that included hints of the past and what many would call simpler times.
On our way out, I couldn’t help but notice the pies and took a picture so that you could see that beautiful meringue and whipped cream. These things are works of art. The kids kept saying, “Guy Fieri needs to come here.” I totally agree.
If you are looking for a great mix of old and original flavors packed with some spunky twist, Mad Eats is your place. The tastiness of the food here seems to explode in your mouth ‘in the most delightful way.‘ Get it?LOL. Anyway, If you’re looking for healthy, maybe get the veggie tacos no cheese and no tater tots for a better option. It all depends on what you are wanting.
