Pandemic Haircut

Tulsa’s Mayor shut down the city in March, and it would be May before ‘personal care businesses’ could legally open again.

He came up with ways to keep money coming in while the doors were closed and, at the same time, help other stylists and people in the same industry. He did everything from sale product to make hand sanitizer. He hustled, and he played by the rules knowing it was all he could do to both try and keep his business afloat and prepared for the days when he could allow people inside the building.  It was for sure an uncertain time, but he was certain he wasn’t giving up on his lifelong dream and got his message out about what he was feeling and doing to try and keep income coming in when the pandemic closed the brick and mortar doors to his business.

I don’t mind admitting when things started to reopen May 1, 2020; I was a little nervous about getting back out there. I think a lot of folks were cautiously optimistic about this new world and these strange times. I knew my friend Josh Perry had been working tirelessly behind the scenes to get J Perry Salon and Spa ready for his employees and his guest. He wanted to do his best to follow the guidelines and keep his team and customer families safe. Josh didn’t skip a beat. I made an appointment, and I got a text message telling me what to expect. I knew when I arrived; I’d need to call or text before walking in the doors.

He and his team took your temperature before you walked inside, made sure you had a mask, wore a mask, and cleaned their stations between each client and so much more behind the scenes that I’m sure none of us will ever really know. They seemed to work so hard to ensure they were doing everything possible to keep themselves and you safe. It was reassuring to me because I knew they cared about every step and weren’t just going through the motions.
Josh has such a good heart. He is a person who not only helps me look my best, but he is a friend. I knew all of this wasn’t just about keeping his dream business going; it was about doing the right thing as best he could in a moment in time when things seemed to keep changing and updating. I wanted to hug him that day but knew in a time when we were not shaking hands or even fist bumping; I could not. So I just cherished every second of laughter with him while I was in his chair. As I walked out, I said a little prayer of protection for Josh and his team and for all of us for peace, comfort, strength, and protection. I also said a prayer of thanks for people like Josh, who make the world a better place just by being who they are in the best and worst of times.  Below is a picture from just before the pandemic hit. I have to believe one day we will get to take photos like this again. ❤️
