In 2017 about the end of February early March time frame, I just got sick and tired of feeling lost. I’d not found a trainer that I could work with consistently, see results, and afford. I was working out on my own and trying to achieve results I’d been able to get in the past.

I would eventually find some key people and things to help me stay on track. A major find for me would be a DNA test that offered clues about what I knew and what I didn’ t know when it comes to what works for my body and why.  The results helped me set the course for new goals aimed at health and happiness more than anything else.

The test kind of confirmed some things I’d figured out with different trainers and by myself through trial and error, but it also offered new insight about why certain things do or don’ t work for me.

Learning to love golf

For most of my life,  I’ve played sports. I love competing against myself, playing on a team, and learning new things. I’ve done everything from figure competitions to golf tournament, to marathons and even open water swims. Usually what draws me to try something is facing fear, a challenge, or supporting a great cause.

Competing at Arkansas State Championship

I love what I’ve learned from the ladies I’ve played with or competed against in different sports or sporting events.

Anyway, over the years,  I noticed I do better with fitness goals in place. So I would come up with new goals and challenges. Bruce Williams of Abnormal Fitness(Click here to read an article in fitness chats and learn more about Bruce)

Chicago Marathon

would work with me and help me get prepared for the task and whatever goal I’d set for myself when I was living in Northwest Arkansas.  Sometimes my goal was just to finish an event. Sometimes the goal was to beat a time or reach my personal best time. Long story short, I do better when I have goals.

Open Water Swim

Now I’m working on learning to stay healthy and fit. It’s a new goal for me in a way, more focused on life goals rather than goals for one event. For me, this journey has meant taking a closer look at what makes my body tick. I spent around $350.00 about two years ago on a DNA test. I am learning it may be one of the best investments I’ve ever made. I feel it has helped me with a sort of road map to my body.

The key for me is understanding that map and using it consistently for my health.

I have good days and bad days, but I also have information which helps me stay focused on the goal of feeling good and living my best life, that works for me. The doctors I worked with,  sat down with me and explained what I needed to do according to my results. Now for about the last two years, I’ve used that information to keep my body fat down(for me lol) while trying to build some muscle. I’m not saying I know everything or that I’m all of a sudden the fittest, healthiest, or perfect person or athlete. I have ups and downs just like everybody else, but I try, and I learn. I started writing more here about my journey because I know I’m not alone and I thought maybe I could learn even more with others. It’s been fun so far, and I am looking forward to the future knowing there are even more opportunities to educate myself about tools out there that might just help me live a healthier life. I’m actually going to share a story about it on the air at the end of the month. I don’ t know what your goals are or if this DNA test might be a good fit for you, I just know I feel like it’s helped me a lot. It’s just one of the things I’ve incorporated into my toolbox trying to live the best life I can 🙂
