“Fitness is not about losing 10 pounds, doing 10 pushups or having a six-pack. Fitness is about WHO you do pushups with, the Jeans you can now fit into and a healthy heart that gives a renewed quality of life!” – Bruce Williams.
I‘ve known Bruce Williams for many years. For me, he is both an amazing friend and trainer. When we first started working together he was based at Shadow Valley in Rogers, Arkansas. He helped me reach all of my fitness goals by listening to whatever I was fighting, body, crazy schedule, food understanding… you name it he helped me through it by showing me what to do, how to make better choices and supporting me through the work and the ups and downs.
I finished two marathons while working with him, a couple of open water swims and even a few figure competitions. More than anything I got stronger, healthier and felt so much better about myself. Small gains or large gains he took every step with me. If I hit a plateau, he helped me get passed the issue causing the problem. More than anything, he did ‘t allow me to get complacent. He usually started our workouts with one or two claps and a, “Let’s go” or something similar. Just enough so you know chat times over. Work time is now. And get ready to have some fun.
It’s been pretty darn cool for me to watch him make his own dreams come true. If you are ever looking for workout inspiration in the Northwest Arkansas area, check out his new place rightfully called, ‘Abnormal Fitness.’ One of my favorite things about this facility has to do with the staff and the clientele. I’ve never met a stranger there, meaning everyone seems to show each other support without judgment and without talking to you so much you can’t get your workout done. There seems to be very little done for ‘show ‘and a lot done for results.
When I’m in town, I try to make a group class depending on what’s offered that day. I’ve even stopped by before just to hit up the tire tread treadmills. If Bruce can work me in, I’ll for sure try for a personal training session, but I LOVE the group classes too. The workouts are never the same and if you are a myzone person, don’t worry they’ve got ya covered. Look for more posts about Bruce and the team as I never stop learning from them and love sharing that with you. I’ve continued to work with him long distance as well. So if you’re not in NWA, don’t rule this team out.
But again, if you are ever anywhere near NWA, stop by and I think you’ll find it’s worth your time just to say hello and see what ya think.
