I love holidays and being with family. Sometimes I cook dessert, and sometimes I bring something store bought with me or just add it into the mix. This year I knew our schedules were hectic so, I ordered Mrs. Prindables Gourmet Carmel Apples. You can sometimes get a better deal on them through QVC especially if they are running a special.
I must confess I didn’t discover these awesome apples on my own. A couple of years ago we got an apple from a neighbor at Christmas time. We’ve been hooked ever since.
Anyway, There are several things to love about these wonderful treats in addition to the taste. First, they come in a box, but they are individually wrapped. Second, you can put them in your refrigerator, and they keep for a week or so. Third, they come with a nutrition sheet so you can see what is in them. I have a son with tree nut allergies, so this has been very helpful for our family. Fourth, the website says you can put them in the refrigerator, and they will keep for up to three weeks. I’ve only put them in the fridge for about five days, but I also usually put a, ‘Do not eat’ note on them to keep us all out of them until the holiday.LOL.
Now let me tell you about the taste. The apples we’ve had, have been the perfect mix of tart and sweet. I love how the caramel and chocolate kind of melt on your tongue as you bite into the crunchy tangy apple. It’s great because they aren’t heavy on the stomach in the middle of all the other rich foods you’ll often find on the table. When you cut them into sections, they make excellent finger food for a sweet treat. If you put them on the table in their boxes, they don’t detract from the table setting but instead, add to the fun of the day. The boxes I got with Easter apples, were so cute sitting next to my mom’s china on the table. They were different, so everyone had fun looking at each other’s fun design.
They’re also in a way conversation pieces as everyone seems to want to know how to get them.
I had some at Christmas at the house for our guest, and they went quickly. Then I ordered more to give as Easter treats to the family. This time I got ten of them: five triple chocolate and five milk chocolate peanut butter. It was fun to watch my brother-in-law cut into one at the table while we all sat around and visited. It wasn’t long before we all would be doing the same.
Happy Easter
I love the holidays at my parent’s house. Mom and dad always make them special. Now with my sister’s children and my husband and kiddos its extra special for me. Like a dream come true. My heart always leaves so full of joy and thankful for every moment. I find myself often times just sitting at the table listening to the conversation and trying to take mental snapshots of each minute. I try to pay extra attention to every humanistic detail of each face and all the voices. I watch the hands at the table knowing each one tells a story as everyone works to prepare dinner.
I know one day the table will change. There will be fewer people some years and more people some years all sitting together passing down stories of old times and creating new memories. These times are so special as I sit there I can feel my grandparents and great grandparents smiling down from above. I remember how my parents made sure we saw them all as much as possible especially on holidays. And I don’t skip the significance of each piece my mother has placed on the table and the food she has selected, knowing she and dad probably worked all day to get it all together to make such a special evening. My sister and I bring our contributions adding to what has already been made for everyone to enjoy.
My hope is that our kids are learning the same lessons and values of friendship, family, and love. I usually take a moment to close my eyes making sure I am taking in all the sounds of laughter and warmth that is the strength and comfort of family. And I can hear in these words over and over, “Faith, Hope, and Love. The greatest of these is Love.”
Happy Easter sweet friends. May you know peace, joy, and love on this day and always.
